Happy Wednesday, lovers!
This week, I have a extremely insightful Q&A with Clare Lamberth, owner of award-winning Brisbane salon, Beauty on Latrobe. I visit Beauty on Latrobe every month for a facial and couldn't recommend Clare and her amazing team more. I have a fantastic skin regime using purely Ultraceuticals products and have seen such a positive change in my skin since I started receiving facials at the salon. Situated in Paddington, Beauty on Latrobe is an absolute must if you're looking to take control of your skin and achieve REAL results.

Check below for my winter skin Q&A with Clare!

Can you run us through a skin analysis for someone who is a first-timer? How does this help you customise a facial?
A skin analysis allows up to take a deeper look into your skin. It shows us aspects of your skin that we might not be able to see from the surface visually like deep pigment, true oil flow, water content, weak & sensitive areas. Once we’ve been able to get the full picture of the true health of your skin we are then able to create a skin treatment plan to address the main concern you have. We do that while respecting and strengthening the health and integrity of the skin.

How often should a facial be a part of your skincare regime?
Just like going to the gym, frequency is key. If a client is serious about getting results with their skin and correcting their skin concerns, fortnightly treatments are recommended. Monthly treatments are great for maintenance once the skin health has been optimised.

What Ultraceuticals product is a stand-out for you? What product would you recommend universally?
When you work with such an amazing Australian skincare company, it’s hard to just pick one. I’m in love with the new Ultra Dual Microfoliant. It contains an enzymatic exfoliant, jojoba beads and vitamin c granules to gently, yet effectively, exfoliate the skin while flooding it with powerful antioxidants. The skin looks and feels luminous afterwards.
While incorporating skin care is important, what can we be doing to nourish our skin from the inside too? Such as supplements, drinking more water etc.
The skin is a mirror for our insides. As Skin Technicians, we can see straight away with a client’s skin, if something isn’t right on the inside. Studies now show there is a direct link to skin and gut health especially. Water intake is important to flush away toxins and improve lymphatic flow, as does reducing refined carbohydrates, sugar and gluten. One quick and easy way to improve skin health is to add a high quality skin-focused EFA (Essential Fatty Acid) into your morning routine. We love Bestow Beauty Plus Oil which is a highly-effective organic & vegan EFA designed to flush pores of debris and restore skin hydration from within. The rest is a healthier skin that’s able to respond to treatment much more effectively.
What is your current favourite treatment at Beauty on Latrobe?

Cosmelan pigmentation peel would by far be my most favourite treatment right now. Treating dark spots & hyperpigmentation with regular facials, and even lasers, can be hard. You often need many treatments, they hurt and don’t always work. In some cases, client's skin tones may prevent them from having any treatments at all due to risk of burns or not being able to achieve results. Cosmelan changes all of that. It’s a once-off treatment which is guaranteed to treat even the deepest, most stubborn pigmentation in all skin tones. Even where other treatments have failed to work, Cosmelan delivers. It’s an investment and requires strict dedication to caring for your skin daily, but the result is beautiful, smooth, glowing, even-toned skin.

What are you tips for taking care of skin during winter? Do our skin needs change during the colder months?
My top 3 tips for caring for your skin in winter are:
1. Changing up your skin routine is essential in winter. As the weather cools down, our oil flow slows down too. Team that with temperature changes from warm heating to cold winds and it’s a sure-fire recipe for dehydration and sensitivity in the skin. Summer skincare isn’t made for winter. I recommend moving down a cleanser to a lighter foam or milk cleaner, and up a moisturiser to something with more hydration & protection against the elements. If you’re not sure or find guessing online overwhelming, pop into your local Skin Technician for a Skin Health Check.
2. Just add water. A quick and easy change you can make to see visible improvements in your skin over winter is adding a hydration serum into your skincare routine. These are applied under your moisturiser once or twice daily to help boost the water content in the skin. They often contain calming ingredients to help with any sensitivity in the skin. Increasing oral water intake can help, but is pointless if water is being lost through improper external hydration.
3. Down Exfoliant. I see a lot of over-exfoliated skin. Mostly, it's clients in their 20’s trying to clear their skin, but instead, they are stripping precious hydration and causing long-term damage & sensitivity. If your skin feels tight and squeaky clean, you’ve over-done it. Your skin’s exfoliation needs are dependant on your oil flow. Greasy skin needs more (up to 3 times weekly), whereas normal and dry skin needs less (1-2 per fortnight). If you feel like you need to put moisturiser on straight away, or have dehydration & breakouts at the same time, there’s a good chance you’re over-doing it. This includes AHA’s, scrubs and sonic cleansing brushes. Keep them for daily use for AHA’s or 1 x per week for scrubs and sonic brushes.
What is your #1 skin tip?
Sunscreen. Learn it, live it, love it. Sunscreen is your insurance policy for all things anti-ageing in the skin, especially in Queensland (the skin cancer capital of the world!). The most frustrating statement we hear as Skin Technicians in salon is “I don’t need sunscreen, I don’t go out in the sun." - THEN HOW DID YOU GET HERE TODAY?! 5 minutes of unprotected sun exposure every day equals a week of full-on sun bathing over the course of 1 year. I think we can all agree that we get more than 5 minutes walking around on lunch, travelling to work or driving each day.
Sunscreen is no longer the thick and skin-clogging creams they used to be. The sun is responsible for up for 90% of all ageing within the skin. Sunscreen is the best anti-ageing skincare product you will ever use. Choose a sunscreen with SPF 50+ that also incorporates moisturisers and doubles as your daily moisturiser. This will make protecting your skin and helping your skincare work smarter. Not harder, easier.
What steps (in your opinion) are VITAL in a skin care routine?
You don’t need a complicated skincare routine to get great results with your skin. The foundations do matter though. Getting the right cleanser & moisturiser especially suited to your skin is key to everything else you do in the skin. Then daily SPF moisturiser, a treatment serum & eye cream that address your main skin concerns is a great start. Exfoliation (if not in your treatment serum) will also help your other products to penetrate effectively and help keep your skin clean.

Thank you to Clare Lamberth from Beauty on Latrobe for the insightful information!

Hello, fabulous!
Last week I had my first ever staycation here in Brisbane for my birthday! I packed my bunny jumper  and fluffy socks and off I went to Gambaro Hotel on Caxton Street. I had heard many good things about Gambaro over time and was excited to try it out and even more excited about heading to Gambaro Seafood Restaurant for a birthday feast! Fresh seafood = LIFE.

I was put up in their Petrie King Balcony room, which included my own private balcony, a pillow menu, a beautiful king bed, a huge shower and more. Plus, I can't forget the bath robes. Bath robes are the first thing I look for when I enter a hotel room! No joke.

There's something about staycation which is super relaxing. I knew the area, what weather to expect, I could drive there in my own car and when it's as easy as packing an overnight bag and not a huge suitcase, I'm sold!

I arrived at Gambaro in the afternoon and went straight to the balcony in my room to check out the view (pictured below). Well, that's a lie...I checked for bath robes first #guilty.
After having a little wander around the room and checking everything out, I went next door to see where I would be dining later on that night at Gambaro Seafood Restaurant
Gambaro also has their Black Hide Steakhouse across the road for convenience as well. You don't even have to walk far to get your hands on delicious food! Dreams.

Being located on Caxton Street definitely helps. The Barracks is just metres away and you're super close to Paddington and all of the action at Suncorp Stadium. If you're wanting to stay somewhere with access to just about everything, you can't look past this hotel.

After checking out what was around the hotel, I decided to go back up to my room, get in m PJ's and watch TV until dinner. I was so happy to relax and hear the rain outside. Plus, those silk pillows were everything! 7pm came around and before you know it I was devouring the most incredible seafood platter for 2 (thanks for the assistance, Mum!). To say I was full was an understatment. I think I even undid the top button on my jeans just so I could breathe - don't judge me. It's a common occurrence.
Make sure you have a look at the photo of my dinner below. You might just book yourself in to try it!

After dinner, I retired to my room and was so exhausted from all the excitement. I slept like a baby! I had a great sleep, made myself a cuppa (they stock T2 Tea in the room!), opened up the blinds and watched some TV before I jumped in the oversized shower and got ready to start my day!

Overall, my stay at Gambaro Hotel was extremely relaxing and enjoyable. I loved dinner, my room and the close proximity to everything. I would absolutely recommend staying here if you're up for some 5 star luxury! Check out my photos below - they might just tempt you.

Hello there!
I thought I'd do something a little bit different for this post and tell you about my hair journey! Yes, hair journey. You see, I've been very appreciative of all the compliments I have received on my hair in the past and even now. It's so nice to know my mane is good enough to be complimented! My hair has always been EVERYTHING to me. I'm very protective of it, only allow hairdressers to do a "fairy trim" and I always ensure I use quality products so it's always looking and feeling its best.

Long story short: I had long blonde hair as a little girl and when I hit 10-11, it was a delghtful mousy-grey colour which I hated. It wasn't vibrant, it was dull and had no body or highlight to it. So, in year 6 my parents bought me what we thought was temporary dye. Turns out it was permanent blonde colour and since then, I was lightening my hair to blonde for 10 years.

I'm extremely lucky in the sense that I did it so slowly that it didn't ruin or damage my hair. I've seen A LOT of horrible bleach jobs done by people who had no idea what they were doing. That was the good thing about being young and in a strict school, I was able to do it gradually without a lot of notice.

But with the blonde hair came regrowth and LOTS of it. My hair grows so damn quickly and my friends and I used to start seeing regrowth within 2 weeks of getting my hair done. One thing I always hated about getting my regrowth done was for a week after, my hair was so bright that my eyebrows looked SO dark and weird in contrast to my hair. I would have people like, "woah, did you dye your eyebrows?" or "Did you make your hair lighter?!"
No, no I didn't. But the colour wouldn't settle until a week after and I would always immediately dread the week ahead because I knew how ridiculous I looked. I started getting really annoyed/self-conscious about how bright it was.

So here comes a thought: maybe I'll give balayage a go? It might look a bit more natural and I love how it looks on other people.
I always said I would NEVER go brown. I swore I wouldn't.
Then I did balayage just before my 21st birthday and let's just say, I will never go back to being fully blonde - I LOVE it. My hair has been darker in some months, lighter in some - depending on my mood and how I get it done. But I'm really loving the darker hair life, it's more me.

In saying all of that, the most important thing is ensuring I'm taking care of my hair the best I can at home. Going to the hairdresser only does so much! I've been getting my hair done with Nak this year and wow, my hair is so healthy & soft. It looks good, feels good and I have a huge amount of products to make sure I keep my hair routine going. I can honestly hand-on-heart say I won't use anything else but Nak. They have the most incredible products and they truly make my hair amazing. I'm always so excited to do my hair because I get to use great products and I know I will always get incredible results! I'll be doing a full blog post on all of my Nak products, how I use them and what they do soon - stay tuned!

Since I love Nak so much, I've teamed up with them to do a giveaway on my Instagram! You can enter by clicking HERE. Entries close Monday June 26 at 5pm.

Hello, hello!
It's that time of year again where I whip my hair on the d-floor and sink too many cocktails. That's right, it's my birthday (June 13)! I had the most fabulous weekend with my best girl friends to celebrate. We started off the night at an amazing Italian restaurant (Italian is my FAVE) and then we kicked on to my favourite bar and so on...if you get what I mean. The night definitely got less classy, let's be real.

While this isn't a 'significant' birthday, I wanted to do something with my best girls and get dressed up all pretty 'n' stuff. I found the most perfect dress to wear and was over-the-moon with it. I really love unique pieces and as soon as I saw this dress, I had to get it! I also bought a belt from the same label to go with it and threw on some nude heels.

I had my makeup done by the EXTREMELY talented Megan Williamson - she is a MAGICIAN! She did the most amazing job and made me feel like a queen. If you're in Brisbane and in need of incredible makeup, you need to chat to Megan!

Hey, you!
Can you believe it's June already? I can't! The year is going so damn fast, I can barely keep up!
I do get excited when June rolls around, I'll admit. It's my birthday on the 13th and who doesn't love a birthday? Cake, cake and...more cake.
Since it's hit the middle of the year here in Australia, it means it's definitely cooling down. While I can't stand winter, I do enjoy the fashion and curling up on the couch with a cup of tea, Netflix and a Sara Lee chocolate cake (which you won't be sharing because you'll eat the whole cake yourself, obviously).

I picked up this dress not too long ago from Sass & Bide. I instantly loved the details and how thick the material was. If you saw my wardrobe, there's a plethora of summer clothes waiting to be loved. But on the winter side of things, I do struggle adding to my wardrobe - especially dresses to go out in. So, you could say this dress is right up my alley!

Sass & Bide is such an amazing brand and I always see something I love. They have such innovative designs and I can't say no to a bit of embellishment! I've worn this dress out a few times now and I'm so happy it can keep me warm - alongside a few cocktails, of course!

Check out the details below & see how you can get a similar look.
